XALAPA Weekend Travel for Stake Conference

It was a large and busy city . We shopped and bought.

The town had many gardens
The bedroom was awesome, with hand carved furniture

We loved this place and would like to return
The Courtyard
Ate breakfast and dinner in this courtyard, the
table centerpieces were small red and yellow peppers growing in pots
The Hilton's, Bickmore's and Tejada's

Stayed in a lovely Villa named
VILLA LAS MARGARITAS

August Activities

For Months we have been watching
our backyard bananas grown

We are ready for the harvest

Oh NO...The squirrels got to them first

Many times we walk thru' the Hotel Mocombo to get to the beach

The water is as warm as bath water, but really salty

This day at the beach, the women rode on the banana
since we didn't get to eat our bananas

Rob was missing chopping his winter supply of wood
so he tried coconut chopping instead

Finally the arrival of Zaylie Pearl

Cute Story:  While working in the Church cannery in Boise we received a call from our stake president.  In fact their were seven messages on our cell phone from President Woods, when we returned his call he said an Elder Tenorio from Mexico had been trying to contact us for several days, with no luck; when he would call our answering machine would say "We're either up hiking or in the hot tub"  To have privacy we went to Brooks home and in her office returned the call to Elder Tenorio at which time he extented the "calling" to serve in the presidency of the Veracruz Temple for three years.  Even though we were in shock, Robert answered him "I have never turned down a call, so I will not turn down this one.  BROOK SUSPECTED SOMETHING..  We went out to lunch with the kids to McDonald's and while eating she said "O.K. whats going on".  Our plan was to get all of the kids together the following night for "The Announcement".   Well we told Brook then and she about started to cry and said "But mom you promised you wouldn't go on another mission, til I had my last baby"..................so this is where the CUTE STORY begins.  Her and Dustin planned right then to go ahead and get pregnant, so thier baby could be born during the two weeks when the temple was closed and we would be home in July.  Let's see how they did--the date of the above was SEPTEMBER 17, 2009

THE MONTH WE HAVE ANXIOUSLY AWAITED

Packing for trip home

Lance and Brook were at the airport to meet us
What a shock to see Brook SO Pregnant

Our three day family reunion was kicked on the So. Fork of the Salmon River
Older grandkids and adults alike enjoyed the thrills of a rapid river

First day home, we took all the grandkids over 12
on a whitewater rafting trip called the RUSH
on the South Fork of the Salmon River

The following Friday and Saturday were jammed full
of swimming, games, younger grandkids night out
with grandma and grandpa and lots of visiting for everyone

Lance & Cynthia hosted our Family Union at their lovely new home

The grandkids spent relentless hours in the pool

Lance and Lane wore themselves out
tossing kids in

The big boys playing with the little boys

Grandma and Grandpa joined in

Sweet kissin' Cousins

Toss, Toss, Toss
Will the line ever end!

Now here is a game that looks like

"The Masted" Regatta's visit to the Port of Veracruz

In late June Veracruz was one of the  host stops of a regatta
where large ships from various countries
sailed from port to port

Barque Eagle  America's Tallship
The Eagle began its existence as the Horst Wessel in Hamburg, Germany in 1936.   Her keel was laid on February 15, launched on June 13, completed on September 16, and commissioned on September 17. She was the second ship in the class to be built after the class namesake, Gorch Fock. Adolf Hilter and Rudolph Hess were present at the launch and christening. The name was given in tribute to Nazi party member Horst Wessel.

Segelschulschiff Horst Wessel
At the end of World War II she was given to the United States as a war reparation

It was very interesting being on the ship.
The ship is operated year roundd by a permanent cew of 56.
Only a few of them from the United States, also a few were women

Presidente applied for passage, but they turned him down

they said he needed more experience at the helm

and to overcome a fear of reaching the
greatest hights

The Motto for a Seaman
is no different than
The Motto for a Saint
The highest compliment one can pay a sailor (a Saint) is to call him a "Seaman" ("A Servant of the Lord").  In that one word is expressed the whole mastery of his profession.  Seamanship (Sainthood) canot be learned in a day, a week, or even a year, for within its meaning lies the ability to handle a vessel (your temple, being your body) under any and every circumstance, fair weather or foul.  Nor can it be learned soley from books.  But as in every other profession, armed with the knowledge of what other men have found successful, the landsman in light of his own experience will learn the more readily and surely.
