Hiking in the Narrows

A new experience for the Hilton's.  We all went to Goblins State Park and hiked the Narrows.  We had never even heard of them before.  Near St. George once we took the kids to a little place off the highway that was called the Narrows, but it was nothing like this experience.

You wouldn't want to be in this place
during a flash flood or an earthquake,
but it was a cool place out of the hot sun

Arches National Park

We split from the group one day and headed for nearby
Arches National Park

Oh my Gosh!  So much to see in just one day

Certainly not hard to see why they call it
The Arches

Just amazing

Makes you feel a little
insignificant
It started to rain just
as I got in position for this picture

This is the trail going down and you can see how
quickly the water accumulated

This is water streaming off the formations
We were in the middle of a flash flood

Make it back to our friends, just in time for
one of Gary Burlingames dutch oven dinners

Moab with friends

For the last part of our month's trip, we meet up with Burlingame's, Moore's and Sabin's.  While they stayed in an RV Park, we stayed in a nearby motel.

Ready to start a great week of ATVing and Jeeping.
Sheree Burlingame had us all matching shirts made
all of our rides were imprinted on the back

Gary and Sheree Burlingame

Chris and Susan Moore

Mark Sabin....Where's Karen?

I found Karen
Hey What's the Matter.  Are you afraid to ride in the Jeep?

Two Jeeps

Four ATV's (where are the other three?)

The Machines and the riders are ready to go on their 1st ride

We Rode by  Streams

In Streams

We Rode Come Rain or Shine

We Rode High
We Rode Low

We Rode Steep and Slick (slick rock, that is)

Hiking was also an important part of our trip

as was Romancing

and Eating

and Proving
(that ATV's can go where jeeps can't)
The two jeeps had to turn back over 26 miles,
while the ATV's went on for a couple of more miles
to finish the loop we started out on.

however, it proved to be Crazy
and Scary

Now this is Steep!!

and the trail didn't improve

most of us had to have Help

but we made it and had to wait several hours for the jeeps

Candy Mountain

What a fun place to get stranded for the night
When the sun goes down in the evening, this mountain looks like
the color of a shiny caramel apple

Our tire went flat and we couldn't get it fixed until morning

We were passing thru' the little town of Marysvale, Utah

We found the cutest little cabin to stay in right on the river

We asked around to see if their was an ATV trail close
and we found one leaving right from our cabin over this bridge

Water, Water everywhere

It was an unbelievable beautiful trail and a fun ride

As we gained altitude, we ran into snow

Hey!  Let's get out of all this water

A tight trail, just like we love

Really a spectacular ride

It was 5:00pm before we left on this ride and we didn't get back to the cabin until dark.  An unexpected side trip.  We loved it
Next day we shopped in the little town at what was like a craftfare
I bought several Christmas presents and a beautiful appliqued quilt for $99.00

One Crazy ride

Each day we would ride new trails, some easier, some more difficult......
then we saw this sign
"Of course, we are experienced riders!" we said.
Within the first 1/2mile, the challenge began.

This trail was steep, with lots of side hills

the further we went, the more dangerous it became

We seldom lifted our heads up to look at the beautiful scenery

We didn't know how many miles we had traveled,
but we did know we couldn't return before dark
so we just kept going hoping to link into an easier trail

I

We finally came to a clearing and within an hour
came to a jeep road; another hour, just before dark,
we came to the small down of  Centerville.
We had $30.00  so found a cheap motel,
bought a comb & toothbrush.
We needed the remaining few $$'s
for gas to get back to the cabin
