Madison Brown baptised in the Sweetwater River

Day Two

Madison Joelle's 8th Birthday was on April 20th. She decided to wait and be baptised in the Sweet Water River while on their Trek to Martin's Cove.  This decision made her grandparents very happy.
It was a beautiful summer day and everything went perfectly.

Our Children Visit The Cove

Day One

Arrival at Grandma & Grandpa Missionary RV Park
(10 miles from the  Visitors Center and The Cove)
Each adult and child had been given a pioneer name
They shared the pioneer's story and will make
the Trek for that person

We decided on two Handcarts
One covered cart for the little ones
One uncovered for supplies

The trek has began

Kylie and Davis pulled

Madison, Haley and Ashley
pushed
Lance took pictures
as Dallin watched

This handcart was maned by McKay,
Haley, Lane, Madison
and Ashley

The little ones
Andrew and Jackson
got to ride

Clayton, nearly a man now,
had to pull

It was very hot, probably close to 100 degrees
We stopped for a rest and a story

Ready to cross the Sweetwater River?

Careful Now
We have precious cargo inside

They made it down the steep bank

When the Saints crossed the River in 1846
It was wider and deeper
Four rescuers carried
Many of the cold and starving
Children and women across

To commemorate
Lance carried Summer

Joel carried Kylie
Lane carried Haley

Lane returned for his Woman

Dustin carried Brook

and Grandpa carried Grandma

It was time for another rest
And another story

In the mist of the story the men were
Commissioned and marched off to war
As part of the Mormon Battalion

Now the women were alone to make
The remainder of the journey
The trail is long and sandy

And now it's getting steep

And steeper

For the younger, it was just too much

But we make it to camp and found our men
Along the way

The campsite was bleak

Just as we all settled down
In rode the Pony Express

With unexpected letters from parents

Everyone was starved, but cooking still
Had to be done over an open fire

ALL HAD A SATISFYING DAY
EVEN THE LITTLE ONES WEREN'T
READY TO CALL THE NIGHT
TO AN END
